I'm so sad I missed this. I'm actually building a Break Out-style RPG (yes, you heard that right) for my game design class and I have some pretty cool blocks. Oh well! I'll pay more attention next time!
Here they are, just for fun. There are copper, silver, gold, and steel blocks. Enjoy!

Nice bricks, but I guess it's good you missed the contest, you wouldn't want anyone else using your special bricks :D
Here's some bricks from me. ^^
¨
¨
The sun design gives me many ideas. :) I'll make a star design soon. :)
— hartnell
Here is mine (I might do another one later, I'm not sure yet). It's more of a brick set than an individual brick since I couldn't decide one color, but I uploaded the red as an individual so you wouldn't have to put a strip in the entries box if you don't want.
The Red Brick - for entries box

The Colored Bricks - showing different colors

The Animated Brick - looks like a good special brick, or something like that

let me know what you think :D
EDIT: @
kake_fisk: Yeah they're supposed to be blurred so they appear like slightly worn bricks. I tried using the conventional method for damaged bricks and it looked too sharp, because of the increase in brick size so I dulled it down a bit. This was actually blurring with the lowest value possible, and then I redid the outline. I liked it because to me it kind of looks like a marble brick… Maybe I'll try to make one using the marble colors, but I don't have time at the moment.
I was going to do alot of different colored bricks. Heh. Congrats — you beat me to it. :)
— hartnell
It wasn't actually that hard. The first one took some effort, but then I just used the colorize feature, and that's that. I do all of my sprite editing for Sprite Battles (and most others) in the Game Maker sprite editor, it makes them feel more like game resources to me. By the way, if anyone wants to know the values for a certain color using the colorize tool let me know, I've got them down pretty well.
Which function or program did u use to make those nice coloured bricks ??
I always use Game Makers sprite editor for Sprite Battles, I know this is a lot late, but I just found the post while I was taking a trip down memory lane…
As far as the function, the red one I made by hand, and the rest of them use the Colorize feature that can be found in Game Makers sprite editor. The last one is just all the different colors put together in an animated gif file, which can be made using the save as GIF function in the main sprite editor window (before clicking into an individual sub-image).
@Anonymo
Your bricks are quite blurred. Were they intended to be like that?
Here's Mine!!!
I like this one much. :) From this I can tell you'd create great RPG icons.
— hartnell
Nice Anonymo, nice.
Kake, by "you can use all the colors you want" do you mean that you can use any of the millions of colors in a 24-bit pallet or any of the colors of the beginner palette?
— hartnell
I meant you can use all colors that exists.
Since this it's just to style the brick I think it's good to be allowed to use any color you want.
I made a brick brick. ^^

lol… looks good.
didn't turn out like I wanted it. oh well :)

edit:
this one too.
I got kind of upset with the marble brick, so I made some different ones. First here is a black version of my above colored ones, just because.

Also I decided hartnell Kake's sun looked lonely, so I made a moon brick to fit with it, using the same artistic style from his sun brick.

Looking at it now, I probably should have added a starry background, but it was just for fun for me. If anyone wants to dress it up, feel free :)
Edit: fixed it kake, lol. Sorry about that it was late XD
I like your moonbrick.
But it was me who made the sun, not Hartnell. ;)
I uploaded the new brick and switched the names around so that the new one will show up instead, I think it looks better with stars, but I still have a copy of the old one on my profile page if anyone wants a copy.
Oh and btw, no one has done anything with this in 3 days, I say we give it another 4-5 max and start voting if we don't get anymore entries. This is just a suggestion, but I doubt we want another spaceship sprite battle that lasts 3-4 months.
Okay, I will start the voting Friday Night, and let it go a week. The next one will probably be the paddle, unless kake wants another round of this one.
-TehRaptor
friday night? okay that means we can't start yet…(friday morning)
Okay, you can now vote….
I will vote for kake's first brick.
To the losers, don't worry if you lose, i am going to compile all bricks and the best balls into a sprite sheet, as well as the winning paddle. Then we will probably have a challenge at GDN to make a breakout game with the sheet.

I'm going to have to say I like mine the best still (The colored ones) because they keep the color like kake's, but have the gently worn feeling that breaks up the monotony. As for color I'm voting for the red one, because it's my favorite.
I just thought of something… If there are supposed to be 3 winners do we get to vote 3 times?
If so my 2nd choice is kake's first one. The rest of them pretty much tie for 3rd sooo… I'll vote for clankercrusher's second one, it looks like a good specialty brick.
I vote for my third.
Here's mine:

You have to upload the file Miles. :)
How do you do that? I'm confused…
OK, here is my photo:

That is mine!
Miles M.
You have to use the template in the first post.
Anyways, Tehraptor started the voting, so it's too late to submit more now, sorry.
I vote for mine.
Soooo… Ummm Is anybody here?
I check this forum every couple of days. :) (I need to put it on my RSS reader so I know instantly when a new post is … posted. :) )
— hartnell
Lol, looks like were at a stand still, we have 4 votes all for different bricks… Sooooo… Hey hartnell, you haven't voted yet, lol
I vote for Clankcrushers first brick.

That's what hartnell say on June, and after 2 month, he just bored because no one care about this topic.
Commander of games, you and me both came here too late.
Hey, just try to PM hartnell and hope he will close this one.If he do, your vote may be the one that pick the winner
Ok, I will PM hartnell about closing this. I wan't it to end now, so I can compete in the next battle. Cheers!
P.S. This battle was started almost a hundred days ago!(your time might be different so you might not see)
I see. Can't believe it.
Hey, what did hartnell say about your PM ?
Ummm, he never replied. I asked kake in another Pm, he might end it. :)
I haven't been that active in WC in general lately because I've been exploring terra incognita.
— hartnell
Yeah, I kinda noticed that, you haven't posted for a while. But we all need to get away sometimes. BTW, what is terra incognita?
commander of games: BTW, what is terra incognita?
"Terra incognita" means "unknown land" in both Latin and Italian. But I have the suspicion hartnell was referring to a specific terra incognita, namely the one between your ears (between each of our pair of ears, actually)… Am I right? ;-)
I stole the term from the introduction of Dianetics :
"Dianetics is an adventure. It is an exploration into Terra Incognita, the human mind, that vast and hitherto unknown realm half an inch back of our foreheads."
Essentially, I've been reconstructing my own old work on the subject an synthesising it with that other other people who been working on the same problem of the 'life, universe, and everything.'
My current conclusion : We are the awareness of an automatic system of survival. We are just the observer and we're not in control. :) Sadly, this groks with buddhism.

Oh, ok. :)
Hmm… I think we are tied up… I guess i'll just have to delcare Anonymo the winner.
Anyhoo… Next contest will be the paddle.
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Finaly someone ends the battle! lol. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
Finish. Great. Good.
Now change the main page from "Breakout Brick - Round 2" to "Breakout Brick - Round 2 - Winner Picked",mark the winner's one and we done.
Yup. Then we need to start a new battle.
